New ministry

Teaching English is Fun! Much to all our surprise - as we've mentioned before - the Lord has led me (David) out of TESOL in a very short period of time and into a new thing. As of mid-February, I am pioneering an English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry here in Perth. After only our second day of classes, there were students who don’t know Jesus who are very interested in finding out.

However, we are hoping to also reach out a helping hand to people who are having a hard time adjusting to life in Australia – who have more of a need as opposed to a want. Those people are isolated in society, here. That’s why it’s not so easy to connect with them.

I am beginning to liaise with social workers and migrant resource people. I had a nice long chat last week with a fellow from Sudan who is working with migrant youth.

Five students came on Good Friday. They didn't come for English practice, but to hear more about Jesus and about Easter. It was a really GOOD Friday.

Darcy is also onto something new, though she will still be covering the Birth Attendant School. She is now involved in preparing short term seminars to train up health workers in developing nations. Our health care school, as part of the outreach, has often done this kind of teaching, but now we will have a stand-alone ministry to keep it going on throughout the year. Simply Health Care will focus on – you guessed it! – simple health care principles that can be quickly and easily passed on – hygiene, nutrition and basic treatment stuff.
